This section provides the reader with the opportunity to hear and compare contemporary speech from each of the three Ridings. Because sound files occupy a comparatively large amount of memory, the following examples have been limited to approximately one minute of playing time. Hopefully, this will be long enough to convey the flavour of present-day Yorkshire speech. Please allow sufficient time for the files to down-load before playing the recordings.
Each of the following sections contains a transcription of the verbal content written in Standard English. Additionally, although the speakers remain anonymous, brief details of their backgrounds are provided.
